Artist Profile
Janet is a Dallas and San Francisco-based artist with a successful career spanning 17 years, including numerous US and international solo and group exhibits. In 2012, she took time off from painting to devote her full attention to creating sculpture. She desired to translate the widely collected “Squigglies” and Boarding Passes series to 3D. In 2014, she introduced the first Squiggly Bronze. Glide, a steel sculpture, soon followed. She splits her time between both mediums, particularly commission work. Her art has been seen in numerous publications, and she had the prestigious honour of being chosen to participate in VOGUE Magazine’s Haute Couture.
What began as a fast doodle has become a passion. In their simplicity and elementary composition, squigglies have no defining characteristics, and that is purposeful. The focus is on their body language and their connection with each other. The process is lengthy and incorporates a laborious layering process of constructing and deconstructing the multiple layers of paint, resulting in a heavily textured exterior surface and a subsurface of interwoven colours.
The deep grooves and painstakingly cut lines offer a simplistic definition of the bodily forms. I intend to show their human-like innocence, emotion, grace, strength, and depth as they relate to each other and the viewer.
