Artist Profile
Leszek Wyczolkowski was born into a family of artists in Poland. He received his first artistic training at an early age from his father. Leszek was also influenced by his mother who encouraged him to pursue cartography which positively influenced his precision. His formal education at the Ontario College of Art. Wyczolkowski attended self-directed residencies at The Banff Centre, Alberta. He has exhibited in over one hundred and eighty solo and group shows in Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, and the United States. Leszek Wyczolkowski’s works appear in museums, corporations, public and private collections all around the world.
My source of inspiration is rooted in nature and geometry, which manifests in uncluttered contemporary geometrical compositions. I paint with the intent to achieve a feeling of balance and harmony offering the viewer visual and emotional contentment that promotes individual introspection. Ornamental foliage does not play a role in my work. The works address exposed branches where we see their intertwining dance towards the abstract and perhaps call to mind veins or arteries where they occasionally hint at the surreal. The landscapes are painted in numerous thin layers that render translucency and result in the revelation of nature’s refinement. I want my work to serve the contemplation, which is so necessary to a person, to discover one’s self and one’s link with the world. I like to maintain a dialogue with the viewer. I never answer; I let the reaction depend on who sees it. Circle, square, fluid geometrical forms, seamless colour transitions, and nuance are key factors in my work. The driving force is to create simplified uncluttered compositions that employ spatial sensitivity in working towards harmony and balance. My works call on the viewer’s imagination to draw personal conclusions based on connection and emotion.
